Yesterday we had a situation that required us to put our safety procedures into practice. At 1:20pm the police department called Betsy Ross and informed them that they were in pursuit of a suspect that may have been armed. At no time did the police department use the term active shooter. School personnel mistakenly used that term which caused understandable alarm by parents/guardians. We have thoroughly addressed this with school personnel and are confident that using incorrect terms will not happen again. We are grateful for the collaboration we have with the police department and are pleased with the quick response of school personnel to secure students and staff. We sincerely apologize for causing any undue alarm by using incorrect terms.
We have been notified by the police that the hard lockdown has been lifted at 1:40pm. If there are any further questions or concerns, please contact your principal or Superintendent Dr. Cavallo at email@example.com.
There is a hard lockdown at all District 91 schools on September 27, 2016 at 1:20pm. There will be an update with more information when it is available. Please do not visit the schools as no one is allowed in or out during a lockdown. Continue to check your email and social media for more updates.
