The Forest Park Community Education Council has been in existence since 1974 as an organization that works toward developing programs in our Village through inter-agency cooperation and non-duplication of services between different organizations and agencies. Over the years the Forest Park Community Education Council has helped to begin programs such as the Vita-Course in the park on Harrison Street, A Pre-School program for three-year old children, summer/after-school Clubhouse, Circle Theatre, Grandparents/Senior Friends Breakfasts in the schools, Cindy Lyons Health Fair, Forest Park Food Pantry, Drug Education counseling programs, and tutoring programs. The Council in cooperation with the Village of Forest Park acquired the message board sign on Desplaines Avenues and Jackson Boulevard. Through the support of the Village of Forest Park, Park District of Forest Park, and Forest Park Public Schools, the Council has been able to initiate many programs with the purpose of finding a source to continue programs once they have been established. The Council is run by an elected board of officials, and representatives from various schools, churches, non-profit agencies and organizations which have involvement in Forest Park. The Coordinator of the Council is Larry Piekarz, Director of the Park District of Forest Park. The Council meets once a month from August through May at a different location each month.
