Kindergarten News
Date:
09/04/2008

We’ve had a very good start to our school year in Kindergarten!  Thank you to all the parents who have made an effort to support the children by establishing an early bedtime, getting to school on time, bringing in the necessary supplies and providing nutritious snacks and lunches.  It makes a big difference in helping the children to cope with a full day of school.  Thank you for your notes giving us important information about the pick-up routine.

Our first days have included cutting, gluing, phonemic awareness, handwriting, color recognition activities, books, Music and Art class and Gym.  The students have needed to use their best listening skills, and it has tired some of them out, but with practice, the routines will become more comfortable for the children.

Parents as Partners!

The special bag is for you, our parents/partners.  Included is a Handwriting reference sheet and a fun activity related to the book The Kissing Hand.  (We hope you enjoyed your kissing hand. J )  Next week we will begin Kindergarten homework by practicing our names in lowercase manuscript.  In the future, please check the Folder for homework (which we generally have 3 times a week.)  There is always a special homework assignment for Wednesday, the Show and Tell day.  We ask that students bring an educational item to share with the class as a Language Arts activity.   We’ll send a more detailed note about Show and Till in next week’s Kindergarten News.

Snack Time:   We are happy to see that almost all of the snacks being brought to school are healthy ones.  However, there is confusion about snack vs. lunch.  Please help us out by labeling the snack separately from the lunch.

Special Requests:  Also, please send all the needed materials (Take-Home Folder, homework, snack, lunch, gym shoes, etc.) in the morning, rather than bringing them to school later.  Not having these materials as we talk about them causes anxiety in the children.
