Student Services Information

  • Our Mission
Our mission, in partnership with home and community, is to educate each child in a safe and nurturing environment in which we foster respect and self-worth, teach skills relevant to contemporary life, promote academic success and creative expression, encourage an appreciation of the rich cultural diversity of our global community, and instill a sense of wonder for the future, thus enabling our students to become responsible citizens.

    Our Vision
Our vision is to maintain a climate which celebrates diversity and the individuality of all children by providing high quality instruction to meet the needs of each student. Such instruction will promote the acquisition and use of knowledge and skills, the ability to meet individual needs in order to maintain health and wellness, and the fostering of positive social relationships which enable individuals to contribute to society.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides for a free and appropriate education for all students with disabilities between the ages of 3 and 21. District #91 offers a continuum of support services for students with special needs from Early Childhood (3 years old) through 8th grade.

    Programs

Special education offers a continuum of support services, i.e., consult, resource, instructional, and alternative/private placements. Consultation, an indirect service, is the means by which a service provider helps other professionals meet a student’s IEP goals and objectives. Resource teachers provide the necessary supports students with IEPs need to be successful in the general education setting. These supports may be offered within the general education classroom or in an alternative small group setting, as needs dictate. Instructional classrooms are provided for students who require more intensive supports throughout the majority of their day in order to be successful academically. Alternative or private placements may be appropriate for students whose needs exceed the support available within the public school setting.
